So these unfinished wood sleds from Dollar Tree have been hanging out in my craft closet since the end of July. I decided it was time to work my magic and give these sleds a sweet makeover. I definitely swayed to these sleds being as rustic as possible. As a child I always remembered my wood sleds being distressed and worn from using them every year. I wanted that same feel. To pull that off I first stained each sled entirely in a Provincial finish from Minwax. I left them outside for a good three hours before I started my next step. To give it that worn distressed look I used a foam brush and lightly swiped over the sleds with white acrylic paint. Once the paint was dry I then sanded certain areas of the sleds. As with all my projects they never end the way I imagine them in beginning. I start off with a set plan and then my mind wonders. Doesn't help when I have too many supplies to work with. So many ideas keep pouring and "what if" is my vocabulary during the whole process. The "what if" for this Diy was "Hey!!! WHAT IF I use the thumbnails on the back of the popular Dollar Tree calendars in this project". So while digging out the calenders I stumbled upon some wood tags. The lightbulb immediately started flashing. My plan was to add the Christmas themed thumbnails to the wood tags. I painted two wood tags in white acrylic paint. After they dried I brushed mod podge on the tag and adhered the Christmas image to it. I then brushed the top of the image with mod podge to seal it. My sleds were done differently. One tag I added a buffalo check ribbon and tied it to sled. The other tag was glued to center of sled and dolled up with a bow. Each sled was adorned on top with a pinecone and pine needles.(using hot glue) They are items I always keep handy in my craft closet. You can normally find pinecones or pine needle stems at any craft store when the holidays are approaching. I absolutely love how these came out. They would look great resting on a tiered tray or added to a center piece. The ideas are endless with these. So many possibilities. Make them your own by painting them another color, adding different embellishments or giving them a theme.
As always Happy crafting😀❤😀
