I'm really in love with this. Made my first trip to Hobby Lobby since January. It was a pleasant shopping experience and surprisingly not busy. I even scored 90% off on some Easter items that will surely come in handy next year. I was on my way to checkout when I saw these vine garlands on a endcap near the party ware section. Since the garland was packaged in a round form I thought it would sure make a sweet mini wreath. My plan was to do a farmhouse style reverse canvas. I decided make the theme "Home". I've seen a ton of ideas on Pinterest with diys similar to this but defintely made it my own. To start the project off I removed the canvas from a Dollar Tree 6x8 stretched canvas. I then lightly sanded the unfinished wood frame. Red Mahogany from Miniwax was used to stain the frame. I decided not to use the original canvas for this project. I wanted a background that would compliment my mini wreath more. Digging through my scrapbook paper collection and trying several out I finally found the perfect paper that would pair well. I used a textured crepe paper from Hobby Lobby. It was cut to fit frame. Dollar Tree foam board was also cut to fit frame. I lightly dotted the foam board with Elmer's glue and then attached the scrapbook paper to it. The foam board piece was then stapled to back of wood frame. I took the vine garland out of the package and kept it in it's round form. The back of garland got a generous amount of Elmer's glue and then was attached to the scrapbook paper background. My creativity really poured with creating the little wood "Home" sign. I took a Dollar Tree chalk board tag and cut all the edges with scissors till I got a rectangular shape. I used sandpaper to sand all the edges. To give the little sign a rustic look I stained it with Red Mahogany. Once dry I added the color Succulent from Folk Art and wet distressed the sign.
My Cricut was used to create the word "Home". My last step was dolling the wreath up with a bow accent. I used some scrap ribbon from my craft drawer to create the small bow. Hot glue was used to attach it to the mini vine wreath. Definitely one of my favorite home decor diys. It's made a home on my mantle.
