Patriotic Clothespin Wreath

So I decided to give the clothespin wreath a shot. Normally I stray from the popular diy's they post on the craft groups. If I do join the bandwagon I try to think outside box and completely make it my own. In this case I certainly gave the Patriotic clothespin wreath a whole new spin. I already knew I was getting myself into a very tedious and time consuming project. I couldn't be like everyone else and just paint the entire clothespin. I had to make things difficult for myself by creating a flag theme on each pin.

The bottom portion of the clothespin was painted in blue and the remaining area was painted in red and white stripes. A total of 72 clothespins were used for this wreath. To make the painting process smoother I left the clothespins on the cardboard backing it was packaged in. Each color was painted separately. I added a little drop of black acrylic paint to the red and blue colors to give them more of a primitive look. It's important to do half your clothespins in a red and white combination and the other stripes in a white and red combination. The reason being is all the clothespins will alternate between red and white when displayed on wreath. Once all the clothespins were dry my next step was cutting 216 tiny white stars on my Cricut. I'll be honest it took longer cutting the stars and adding them to the clothespins then the painting process. All the clothespins were tightly attached to a Dollar Tree 14" metal wreath form. I then came up with the idea of attaching a hanging wood star to center of wreath form. The wood star I scored at Dollar Tree in their Crafter's Square section. I painted it in white and red. I then layered blue and white stars cut from my Cricut to the wood star. In order for the star to hang on the wreath a small hole was drilled on the top of the wood star. Dollar Tree jute twine was then fed through the hole and then tied to the metal wreath. Boy was I relieved after this project was completed. It took me pretty much three straight hours to complete. Very happy with the final result.
