I purchased five of the Dollar Tree Christmas stars back in November. My originally plans failed for them so in the craft closet they went. I know it's crazy that I'm already working on 4th of July diy's but the ideas are not coming as much since all the main holidays have passed. I was working on a project last week and then remembered I had those stars. I started thinking hmmmm they could be used in a 4th of July diy. They are fairly large so my first thought was attaching them to a long wood board. My plan if it worked was to use it as a outdoor decoration. So off to my boyfriend to see if he had a size that I had in mind. It was no suprise that in his wood stash he had the perfect board for my soon to be project. My boyfriend loves anything patriotic so he decided he wanted to participate in this diy. Wasn't going to say no to that. He has more patience then me and perfects anything he touches
While I stained the board in Red Mahogany by Miniwax he sprayed the three stars in red, white and blue colors from Rust-Oleum. Once the board was dry I added some sheepskin chalk paint and a little water to a bowl and wet distressed the board with a shop towel. We let everything dry for a good 3 hours before we started our next step. My bf attached each star to the board with short Phillip's head screws. To give the sign a little more detail I made three small bows with some patriotic ribbon I got last year at Micheals. Hopefully soon will take a trip to Home Depot for a clear protective spray since this will be braving the great outdoors. My front porch that is.
