So a suprise Diy project. The Dollar Tree deer ornament was supposed to be part of another project but I wasn't digging it. So here we are now. The deer got a huge makeover with a new paint job and added accents. What's awesome about this ornament is it separates into two pieces. So you got yourself two deer. Since I'm incorporating it on a frame it will now be easier to attach since the pieces are flatter from being detached. The reindeer is covered in glitter and since I'm working with acrylic paint instead of spray paint it was important to remove as much glitter as possible. I lightly sanded it and got most of it off. Now ready to paint. Using truffle chalk paint by Waverly I covered the deer. Truffle is a dark brown so I needed to tone it down so I lightly brushed white chalk paint from Waverly. After applying I used a paper towel to rub the white around. Accents on the deer were the next step. Using pearl adhesives from Walmart I hot glued one to each swirled antler. I then dressed him up with a scarf made of Dollar tree satin gold ribbon. I added a additional pearl to the center of the scarf. The scarf was adjusted on his neck and hot glued. I love the galvanized Dollar Tree wood frames and was dead set on using it for the reindeer project. When I placed the finished reindeer on the metal background I was highly disappointed. The deer and metal clashed big time. I knew the only way for this deer to pop on the frame was a much lighter background. So I gave it a shot and painted the galvanized metal in white chalk paint. With it being metal your going to need at least 3 coats. Once it was dry I very excited to lay the deer on top of the white background and hope for the best. I was happy, they worked very well together. So to finish off project all I had to do is hot glue the deer to the white metal backgroud. Very pleased with this project. Touch of elegance for sure. Dollar tree really?!?!
