This Dollar Tree Tabletop Plaque Got A Sweet Fall Makeover

Updated: Jul 20, 2021

Fall Diy'ing is in full swing. The 4th has passed and now everyone has Fall on the brain. Why not, right! Everyone loves Fall. Our Etsy shop is surely feeling it now. Pretty much every other order is Fall related. So I had a much needed break today. A day off from my full time job and caught up Etsy orders. Whenever I do have this extra time I like to squeeze in a Diy for you all. All the items for this project I already had at home. I bought quite a few of these small Dollar Tree tabletop plaques that I keep saved in my craft closet for future projects. There is so many ideas you can come up with these little guys. I like it's burlap background feature and the galvanized metal piece that is attached to it. This time I decided to switch things up and didn't want the galvanized metal on the plaque. Getting the metal off the plaque was slightly challenging. It is attached with four upholstery tacks. To remove them I used a flat table knife. Do be careful pulling them out because a few of mine went flying. After removing all four tacks I put them aside. My plan was to reuse them. With the galvanized piece removed the burlap is now fully exposed. My mind was already set to put a fitted piece of scrapbook paper in place of the metal. The scrapbook I chose for this project I got from Hobby Lobby. It has the O' so famous pickup trucks as a theme. Also love the blue color scheme because it matches my living room quite well. I wanted the burlap to still serve as borders to give it character. I traced the scrapbook paper to the galvanized metal. It is important that the scrapbook paper is the exact same size as the removed metal. It's also very important to cut it correctly so you have a full truck image. You also want to make sure you position it correctly so the truck is in the center of your plaque. Using a razor blade I cut my paper to the correct size. I then brushed mod podge on the back of the paper and carefully positioned it on top of the burlap. After smoothing it over I brushed a second coat of mod podge on top of the paper. Using the same table knife I smoothed everything over on the top so no wrinkles or creases would be present. Once it was dry I pushed the tacks back into each corner of the paper. My last step was dolling it up with a cute matching bow. I used a combination of orange and white gingham ribbon and natural colored rafia to create it. It was then hot glued on top. This is a pretty quick diy but can be difficult if you can't get the scrapbook paper cut at the right size for fitting. I suggest having a few spare sheets in case you screw up. Mod podge is also tricky at times and if it's not something you use often its best to practice. Wrinkles you surely don't want. I love the size of this Fall piece. It fit perfectly on my tier tray which was a bonus. Makes a great shelf sitter too. If the popular vintage trucks aren't your cup of tea try a different style of scrapbook paper. The ideas are limitless. Till next time everyone , stay safe and Happy Fall crafting❤
