I don't know about you but this Summer heat is for the birds. Bring on Fall!!! Took a visit to Dollar Tree today and came across this galvanized metal truck. Ideas started popping in my head immediately so I decided to grab one. At first I thought about creating another Patriotic diy but with 4th of July so close I changed my mind. Fall Diy's usually start right after the 4th so decided to transform this truck into a sweet Fall decor piece. So it would match my living room color scheme I sprayed it in a Serenity blue chalk paint from Rust-Oleum. I've been doing orange and blue colors for Fall for a good five years now. Adding a light blue to the traditional orange has become very popular in Fall decorating. I use those colors because I have a living room set that is in a unique mintish blue shade. How perfect that blue has been the new trend in Fall colors. Spray paint by far is the best paint for covering metal. I don't recommend using acrylic paints. I let my truck dry for a good hour and then gave it a 2nd coat. To give my truck a little more character I placed a piece of black check scrapbook paper on top of truck and pressed many times with my fingers on the area I wanted the paper to be. Since the metal is embosed the tracing lines were on the paper for me to cut. Elmer's glue is all I needed to adhere it to the truck. Next I used a little Mod Podge on top to give the paper a clear protective coat
I could have left the truck as is with the jute rope hanger but decided to add the truck to a distressed plank sign I got from Walmart. I removed the jute rope from the truck which in return left two holes that were perfect to fasten screws in. Now that my truck was secure on the wood sign I completed the last step. The back of the truck was decorated with Dollar Tree Fall florals. I used hot glue to attach them to the wood plank. I really love how this simplistic Fall piece turned out. It would look great resting on a mantle or shelf with matching Fall accents. Make it your own by spraying the truck in another color or adding different fall decorations in the back of truck. I'll definitely be taking a trip back to Dollar Tree to snag another truck. Stayed tuned for a Christmas version.
