Wine Cork Christmas Tree

So recently a friend dropped off a ton of wine corks to me. I already had it planned to give the wine cork tree a shot. I looked at ideas on Pinterest and then finally figured out the style I wanted. I decided to give it a whole new spin. I love finding ideas for projects but try to always make it my own. I'll have to say this is definitely on my list as one of favorite Xmas Diy's for 2019. To make this tree I used 26 natural wine corks that were similar in width and height. I learned from my last wine cork project that synthetic corks don't pair well with hot glue. If you only have synthetic corks make sure you use a very generous amount of hot glue or choose a stronger adhesive. I had no issues hot gluing with the natural corks . I think the best way to assemble the tree is to start off gluing each of the rows .Once you have all your rows completed then you will stack each one and glue again. This is the wine cork count starting from bottom, 5 corks, 6 corks, 5 corks, 4 corks, 3 corks. 2 corks and 1 cork for top. I suggest after putting it together to glue in between the gaps of the back of tree. My next step after the tree is put together is to paint the ends of the wine corks. It is totally up to you what colors you want to use. I prefer to paint the wine corks after the tree is assembled. Let's you determine where your colors are needed. So I really wanted to make this my own so I skimmed through my craft drawers trying to come up with something. First I came upon a netted bag of wide wood stems from Dollar🌳. Automatically I knew that would be the trunk for the tree. Next my mind was going back and forth on a base to attach the tree. Digging through my wood crafts I found a oval shape unfinished plaque I got from the Dollar Tree's craft section. The tree sat perfectly on it. Since it was unfinished I wanted to stain it to compliment the tree. I played around with three stains and got the color where I wanted. Same time I was pulling out the plaque I noticed a bag of mini wood craft cubes that I also got from Dollar🌳. My brain starting racing and thought "what if" I use these guys to create small presents for under the tree. One block was obviously too small so I put four together and it was the perfect size. Each were hot glued together. Picking two colors from my tree I painted the presents. White paint was used to make a ribbon around the present. Now for a tiny bow, I was stumped for a bit. Went through my Christmas craft drawer and found some tiny pinecones that were removed off of a Dollar🌳 ornament from another project. They were just brown so I wanted them to stand out a bit more. I lightly brushed them with white chalk paint and then immediately sprinkled gold glitter on them. They were then hot glued to the wood presents. My last accent was topping the tree with a star. The stars came in a pack at Dollar tree called Diy stickers. So the tree is complete. Best way for it to stay on the base was using Elmer's glue. Presents too. Make sure to let it sit for a few hours for glue to set. I'm really loving these wine cork projects and now that I have a insane supply of them I'm looking forward to my next project.😀
